Put the internet to work for you: If This Then That

Recipes, Triggers, Actions and Ingredients

If This Then That (IFTTT) is a service that lets you create powerful connections with one simple statement, called a Recipe:

  • The this part of a Recipe is a Trigger. Some example Triggers are “I’m tagged in a photo on Facebook” or “I check in on Foursquare.”
  • The that part of a Recipe is an Action. Some example Actions are “send me a text message” or “create a status message on Facebook.”
  • Ingredients are pieces of data. For example, the Ingredients of an Email Trigger could be: subject, body, attachment, received date, and the sender’s address.

Channels are the basic building blocks of IFTTT. Each Channel has its own Triggers and Actions. There are more than 120 Channels at the moment and regularly there are new ones added. Some example Channels are: Twitter, Facebook, OneDrive, Buffer, Feed, Instapaper, Vimeo, Box, Evernote, Email, Weather, LinkedIn, Dropbox, ebay, Google Drive, YouTube, WordPress, et cetera.

Personal Recipes

Personal Recipes are prefinedcombinationd of a Trigger and an Action from your active Channels. Personal Recipes can be downloaded from the app or from the webpage. Log into your account and look at the predefined recipes. You can even search for combinations of apps, like 'weather to mail' or 'photo to dropbox'.
